How to turn a picture into a coloring page in 3 easy steps

  1. Upload your photo

Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP picture from your device. Photos with a clear subject and good lighting usually produce better coloring pages. Keep a copy of your original.

  2. Choose your coloring style

Select Default for classic line art, Manga for bolder outlines, or Minimal for a simpler result. Ghibli is also available. Compare the available example styles before generating.

  3. Download and print

Convert your photo into black-and-white line art, preview the finished coloring page, and download it as a PNG. Print your page at home or save it for later. For a paper copy, follow the printing instructions below. Our Photo conversion guide walks through the workflow in more detail.

Choose your photo and style before submitting: the public allowance is one submission per IP per 24 hours, even if you don't download a result. Processing time varies.

What kind of photos make the best coloring pages?

For ColorBliss, choose a clear, well-lit photo with a distinct subject. A close portrait, a pet facing the camera, or a farm animal standing apart from its surroundings gives you an obvious starting point for a coloring page.

Look at the photo before uploading. Can you see the face, ears or other features you want to color? If the subject is small in the frame, try cropping a copy. A simpler background is a useful choice when you'd rather spend time coloring the subject than lots of surrounding objects.

The dog example shows the original waterfront photo beside its line-art version. Use the slider to look at how the dog, decking and background appear in each image. Results can change details, so check the preview before using a page in a gift or project. For activities featuring people you know, explore Family photo coloring pages.

Explore ColorBliss photo styles

ColorBliss offers four photo styles: Default, Manga, Minimal and Ghibli. Choose one in the form before converting. The examples here show Ben's portrait in Default and Ghibli, alongside the original photo.

In this Default example, the line art includes the shirt lettering and detailed woodland behind Ben. The Ghibli example gives the face larger eyes and simpler features, with less detail on the shirt. Look at the parts you'd enjoy coloring: a face, clothing, or the smaller shapes in the background.

These examples can help you choose a direction for your own photo. There are no Manga or Minimal examples in this set, and the style name alone doesn't tell you exactly how every feature will be drawn. After converting, compare the result with your original to decide whether it suits the person who will color it.

Real farm photos, ready for readers to color

Author Kathy Coatney used ColorBliss to turn her farm photos into Farm Fun, a coloring pack for readers of her From the Farm to the Table children's books. She made the pack as a newsletter signup gift, giving readers farm scenes they could color themselves.

The pages below include dairy calves and honeybees on honeycomb, alongside the Farm Fun cover. They show how photos connected to a book's subject can become a companion activity. A reader can meet the animals in the books, then choose their own colors for the farm scenes on the page.

In her Trustpilot review, Kathy says she turned her photos into clean, printable coloring pages in minutes. She describes ColorBliss as a time-saver for creating content for her children's books. That's her experience with her project; processing time for your photos can vary.

ColorBliss is absolutely fabulous!!! It's easy to use, a fun to work with! I would recommend to many younger moms who have kids that love to color their favorite things. I used this to make a special coloring book for a dear friend with Alzheimer's because she loves to color!

Print a coloring page from your photo

Open your downloaded PNG in an image viewer or another app that can print images. Use print preview before sending it to the printer. The page shown here is a digital coloring-page example; your print settings determine how it sits on paper.

Coloring page of a small fluffy dog sitting on waterfront decking with buildings behind it
  • Choose the paper size loaded in your printer. Select portrait or landscape orientation to suit the image.
  • Try the print dialog's fit-to-page or scaling option. Check whether the whole drawing is visible, especially near the edges. A fill-page setting may crop part of the image.
  • Leave room around the outlines. If the preview cuts off the subject, reduce the scale or change orientation before printing.
  • Print one copy first and check it before making a set for a family activity, classroom or gift.

Keep the saved PNG so you can print another copy later or try different settings. If you need a PDF, a suitable browser or operating-system print dialog may let you save the image as PDF. That is a separate step after the PNG download.
