The Hulk in full rage mode, smashing through concrete and debris, captures one of the most iconic moments in superhero action. This scene gives you dramatic movement with chunks of rubble flying everywhere and the Hulk’s powerful pose as he breaks through barriers. The combination of the muscular figure and scattered destruction creates lots of interesting areas to fill with color.

What colors work best?

The Hulk’s classic green skin can range from a bright lime to a deeper forest green, depending on how intense you want him to look. For the rubble, grays are the obvious choice, but mixing in some warm browns and tans makes the concrete look more realistic and weathered. Try adding touches of reddish-brown or orange to suggest rust from broken rebar or aged brick. His purple pants provide a nice contrast to all that green, and you can add shadows with darker purple or even deep blue.

Did you know?

The Hulk wasn’t always green – in his first comic appearance in 1962, he was actually gray. The printer had trouble keeping the gray consistent, so they changed him to green in the second issue. When the Hulk smashes concrete in the comics, artists often draw the rubble with sharp, angular pieces to emphasize the violence of the impact. Real concrete tends to break in irregular chunks with smooth and rough surfaces mixed together, which gives you freedom to draw the debris however feels right.

How to color this one

Markers work well for the Hulk’s skin since you want that solid, bold green. For the rubble, colored pencils give you better control to layer different shades of gray and create texture that looks like rough stone. Add darker colors on one side of each chunk of debris to show where shadows fall. The dust clouds around the impact area look great when you use light pressure with a gray pencil or even blend with your finger for a softer effect.

Who’ll love this?

Kids who love action scenes and dynamic poses will enjoy this one, especially if they like the Hulk’s destructive power. It works well for colorers who want a central character to focus on but also appreciate having background details to fill in at their own pace.
